I got ghosted.
A seasoned broadcast pro was helping me launch my YouTube channel, XVOA. Then he just disappeared. When he vanished, my channel crashed because I had leaned on him too much. But that was on me. This is YOUtube, not WEtube. There’s liberation in solitude… at first.
A few weeks later, working my rideshare gig, I picked up a passenger who was burnt the f*** out—her words—not from work, but from what she called nonstop East Coast pings: “I’ve arrived,” “Ready?” “Are you late?” She talked about meetings to prepare for meetings classic East Coast chaos.
When we pulled up, she snapped at me. I could see why.
She told me a story about ending up in the hospital. Weeks went by. No texts. No calls. No one checked in. Nothing but crickets from the same world that bombarded her with notifications. Not a single real voice.
That ghosting feels personal. But it isn’t just pain. No—it’s systemic.
We got ghosted by those we elected.
On July 4th, Trump signed the “One Big, Beautiful Bill.” It extended tax breaks for the rich while slashing $1.2 trillion from Medicaid and SNAP—threatening healthcare and food security for over 10 million Americans.
Congress and the mainstream media—CNN, MSNBC—they all went quiet. They read the talking points. But nobody on cable asked: Who disappears when this hits home? Who ends up abandoned… like that passenger of mine? Like the communities losing the care they depend on?
XVOA is for you.
If a collaborator ghosted when the work got real.
If your texts stopped, and no one checked the silence.
If you’re bruised from burnout… or worse, you already know what happens when notifications don’t mean anyone cares.
Quiet hope is our electric spark.
We’re not waiting for a callback from politicians, pundits, or collaborators. We’ll be the first to check on each other. To call, text, vote, and speak up for the ones who vanished. For the people who woke up the day after July 4th wondering: Do they see us? Do they hear us? Do they even give a damn?
We’ll make sure they know.
Today, we remember: ghosting is cowardice and cowards must be sent packing at the ballot box. Thanks for reading Xplisset Voice of America!
