The Alpha and Omega
I didn’t get seven pages written, but I locked in the beginning and found an ending I never saw coming.
I refuse to beat myself up for not producing 7 pages today. Between producing a podcast, working feverishly in the background to increase the production value of every single item that leaves the XVOA desk, and then finding time to ruminate on a novel, I must instead pat myself on the back for not doing what I would have done 20 years ago: stare at a blank screen all day trying to overcome writer’s block.
That was me 20 years ago. This is me today. The problem is I can’t stop writing, and I can’t sleep knowing this is incomplete. As James Brown says, Papa’s got a brand new bag.
I’m going to take the liberty of using an overused cliché, which is that sometimes you gotta take lemons and make lemonade. I do not have seven pages. What I do have is the beginning of the book locked in and an ending concept that came at me from the opposite end. Now for the moment of truth. Here is the opening.
I’m going to let you know up front that the ending is going to stay vague. C’mon, y’all know how this game is played. Let’s just say the ending takes this book somewhere I never saw coming.
