Great job of rewriting the first piece. I appreciate your diligence , your recognition of a mistake, and your immediate correction.

Thanks for your reporting.

We are in a very scary situation, getting worse with each day's news. I sincerely hope that those who will be handling this arrest and these charges going forward will have the integrity to shut it down as the political show (and probably racism and homophobia) that it is.

So, the same crew that raids churches to kidnap people now says you can’t disturb church services?

While I don’t support entering any place of worship to protest, I do support journalists who cover it. Arresting journalists is indeed a dangerous precedent, along with shooting protesters and detaining immigrants without warrants. We are in crisis and silence is consent.

It’s time to call for a nationwide GENERAL STRIKE.

I can’t believe I am reading this. If I didn’t know better I would think this is a piece fòr the Onion. Thank you

Sounds like the DOW (Department of Weasels) and their Trump(ed) up charges is competing with Bibi, but Bibi just kills the journalists. This mafia tactic is another distraction and move of desperation as this administration cracks. I hope Lemon holds 💪🏽

And a distraction from what DOJ / Blanche has just said about the Epstein files?

The unraveling of the whole Administration. Every day is marked by the latest Trump-grabbing headline. He lives for it. Lemon’s attorney called the arrest a "transparent attempt to distract attention" from what he described as crises facing the Trump administration. Specifically, Lowell cited the fatal shootings of two American citizens, by federal immigration agents in Minnesota as the real issues being obscured. Can you imagine what would have happened if Fox had gone into that church. They’d have been given the pulpit and asked to deliver the sermon.

I call it the dept of injustice, no need to malign weasels,

Thanks for this excellent summary of an unfolding situation, critical because of its challenge to the First Amendment. I’m Canadian & would be interested to know how much Trump’s DOJ has spent of American’s hard earned money in the last year on all these specious court cases. No doubt getting this info would be tricky, given the lack of DOJ transparency, but arguably it is substantial enough to shock tax paying Americans. Would this be something the Senate Judiciary Committee be doing already—I’m thinking of Senator Sheldon Whitehouse.

Don Lemon was arrested for being a journalist while the thugs go free after murdering two innocent people. There are actually more than two as a few others were murdered in their concentration camps.

This should make everyone's hair stand on end.. they are trying to take everything from us one bit by one.. we are all on the rack.. If things were lawful, dt&Co have no leg to stand on and they know it this is why real journalism is dangerous to them. Thank you for your writing..! (I hope you have heat now! Ours went out last night.. and now it is me in a down coat writing this! ha!)

NYT headline "analysis": Calling the Protests in Minnesota an Insurgency Poses Dangers. Ya think? https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/31/magazine/jacob-frey-interview.html?smid=url-share

I have even greater respect for you now! I didn't get around to reading your recent posts until just now, and I was ready to unsubscribe when I noticed the glaring "reporting" errors. Then that page was taken down, and I saw your retraction. So, because of your humility and humanity, I'll stick with you!

Considering this bunch's track record with the courts - I lean towards believing they have once again over-stepped.

This morning I got a link to Bruce Springsteen's Minneapolis song/video - seems to me this goes a long way towards inspiring people in this moment. The video itself is compelling - there are a couple pictures on it I hadnt seen before pertaining to the murders in Minneapolis.

As bad as things are and have been - this is almost uplifting.

Sadly, I believe it. But is this also distraction from Blanche presentation re the Epstein files?

Okay...I feared something like this would happen, and in my view this illustrates a couple of things. I think it is a test case. My theory is that the Trumpians, people who score very high on the authoritarian scale, literally cannot understand those who think in a logical, analytical way, so while they value authoritarianism they know a lot of folks don't, and they are not quite sure how much what action will cause the majority to "rise up" to the point of blocking their ultimate agenda, a country that is ruled by white Christian fundamentalists who put their childhood-conditioning values and concepts ahead of what objectivity might indicate.

What I am awkwardly trying to say is that they can't read the room...they don't know how far they can go, how much they can get away with, until they near that point and can judge the reaction.

Remember, millions of Americans believed their lies from the outset, no matter how absurd.

And recall, too, the odd cognitive characteristics of Trump, and his infantilism. He literally does not know, I suggest, how absurd he looks, for example, when people fawn over him and he accepts it, and they give him shiny and expensive toys. The man is pathetic in a way that would be sad were he not so powerful.

So I think this is a test. But the good news is that whatever distress Lemon is in now...and I do regret that...it will ultimately serve the Resistance far, far more than it will the fascists. Yes, there will always be that rump segment of society that will cheer on the arrest of a black, gay guy so much smarter and successful and famous than ever they can be, but they are not what was once called the "silent majority", the number not to be stirred to concern until their own interests are on the line...and then they form a force that can unseat this whole nest of federal misfits.

I could be wrong but I think the administration fails to see what to me, a non-American outsider, seems obvious -- this will underscore the need for regime change at the top...and fair elections are the means that can happen, if allowed. I have no doubt that the effort is toward arresting any "influencer" on any pretext, however slim, and Lemon's constitutionally protected actions gave them that pretext.

Lemon will not only not be convicted, but his voice will be greatly strengthened in the long run. I wish him well, and success to the Resistance. Keep going.

They are over reaching. Good analysis. Abbe Lowell is defending Lemon. This will be another defeat in court for Trump.
