Everyone should continue to demand an apology from the president, everyone including the black Republicans who need to get a spine and stop this unconstitutional administration before it destroys the government and the economy. Unfortunately, Trump's racist video is the least of what he is doing with his "cruel and unusual punishment" of those detained by ICE and CBP, his deliberate and violent attacks on peaceful protesters, and his "extra-judicial" murders on the sea and on American soil.

But has Trump ever apologized to anyone? I doubt it. But this racial slur against the Obamas is beyond the pale. I never thought I'd see the President of the US posting or saying such an outrageous thing.

I do not understand how ANY one can support dt&Co... black, brown, purple or otherwise.. there is nothing but hate and greed behind them. If they can organize a pushback about this, they can certainly start figuring out how to push back at ALL the other unacceptable things* we have seen firehosing from this awful regime. *(that list too long to mention all of it here..)

Like lower caps for dt and dt&co. Never know what to say except expletives and cannot say President. Thanks, going to use that.

I'm glad these Black Republicans took action, but why did it take such a vile provocation to get them to speak out? And secondly, why aren't pundits talking about the escalating mental illness illustrated in Trump's middle of the night shit posting and instead acting like it's some kind of designed political move?

Some are taking that second tack, but they mostly (or entirely) are not hosted by any big-business media, which at some managerial level would be afraid of blowback from the Trump admin full of all-but-actual baboons (which, by the way, are among the largest monkeys...apes and monkeys being two different kinds of animal, much in the same way crocodiles aren't lizards...all humans are, essentially, apes, but all the kinds of apes can be as different as housecats and tigers and mountain lions, and the "self-owning" of this racist bs being passed along by the senile malignant narcissist somehow still our president is indicative of our current crisis, much as is Sen. Scott and other Rs having put up with this kind of insult and attack, if usually less casually blatant, as long as they have without making more public statement till now--and glad they finally have).

I'm on a fixed income - a modest pension from teaching public school. You are, however, on my shortlist of who I may financially support when I'm through paying off a large dental bill. That said...

I just don't get how a black man or woman would choose to support a clearly racist president. I mean, race goes deep to the core of an individual's identity. The condemnation should be absolute.

Katherine Cummings's avatar

That Scott said, "This is the MOST racist post" says A LOT about how many others have not been called out as such.

Please don't call the repthug party a party of conservatives as we left the party awhile ago. I call them the Guardians Of Pedophiles party and cannot understand why any would stay. HCR actually calls them the radical party as their agenda is not conservative period.

Todd Mason's avatar

Radical reactionaries and fascists do seem to predominate. Conservatives by nature want slow changes to society. Trumpistas seem mostly to want to enact their resentment and to worship an increasingly-senile substitute tyrannical "daddy"...

HRC definitely called it when she referenced ‘the deplorables’ didn’t she?

Whereabouts Unknown's avatar

Instead of taking it down perhaps they should have just pointed it out to the world and said “This is from the office of the President of the United States. Unfuckingbelievable!!!!!

Dianne's avatar

It would have had to be broadcast on the right wing media outlets. I live in Central Florida surrounded by one of the reddest areas of the state. People watch fox ‘news’ all day long and I’d bet that this story was not on any of their shows. So the red hatters have no information about how racist their ‘leader’ is

I, too, reside in central FL, where you can hope to hold meaningful conversations with (maybe!) one or two people out of a hundred.

And now tRump is doubling down, refusing to apologize, and admitting/bragging that he posted the bigoted, racist, disgusting video. Will Republicans call him out? Otherwise it's a case of black Republicans trying to keep their base, while simultaneously the Executive Dept. trying to keep tRump's MAGA base. Congress -- grow some vertebrae!!

Xplisset's avatar

Laurie, yes, the “staffer did it” excuse is the oldest move in the book that way you keep the base fed, then outsource the blame when it gets too loud to ignore. What Roland revealed is the part that matters to me. It wasn’t moral clarity from the party, it was a pressure calculation from a small circle that knew this crossed a line they couldn’t defend in public.

And yep you’re right. if Republicans can’t draw a bright line at dehumanizing a former Black president and first lady, then “call him out” becomes theater, not accountability. Congress has the tools if it has the spine. Until then, we’re watching a governing apparatus that’s trying to manage outrage instead of confronting the rot.

Wow well written. Everything you said was worth the wait. X it was great how you described black G.O.P. Leaders all in agreement that this was the stance and Tim Scott was going to deliver it. I saw the visual. This is a racist and it was vile and racist what Trump had on his account. The fact that he didn’t apologize says everything. How could you even have anything up like that and then the king of the jungle defense. Not surprising. Agreed that was a red line. Great stuff let’s see what other republicans call him out.

Think back, folks - this same exact type of fuckery (sorry) was thrown at the Obamas before and during his presidency. And believe me, at that time, no one spoke out! This is nothing - absolutely nothing - new. I remember too much of the crap that was on social media and posted by people who, quite honestly, did not know any better. That's a mild rebuke, but I heard it a lot when I was a kid. At the time - way back then - that was a pretty harsh criticism! Or as my dad used to say "too dumb to pour p*ss out of a boot, with a hole in the toe"!!!

Joanne Beck's avatar

No apology. He won't do it. Because he is a poison amoeba. No spine, no brain just an organism that pollutes everything it touches.

SHAME. Disgust. I want him gone gone gone.

Those Republicans in congress that do not shout out how much this disturbed them, are showing their truth and will hopefully go home someday with their spineless bodies to rot and fester like the trash they are WHEN they get voted OUT.

Trump said later Friday that he won’t apologize for the post: “I didn’t make a mistake,” he said.

Is this what it takes for Tim Scott to actually confront the racism in this regime? Something that is SO IN YOUR FACE to black people? Why? Why can't he be on the front lines protesting the racism that is ICE and DHS's "immigration" reality?

Hypocrisy is why. It is part and parcel of the regime's assault on the Constitution and the Rights of American citizens. They ignore the illegal and unconstitutional acts in order to promote their advocacy of White "Christian" Nationalism, and any "objections" they voice are just performative politics.

PlasticFish's avatar

Because ICE goes after Latinos, not Blacks? Racism isn't the exclusive property of Whites.

Sadly. we've already discovered that there is no "Bridge too far," or inviolable line in the sand. We still need to keep sabotaging the hostile takeover of our country. If we give up, they win.

I'm waiting for the followup response to Trump's confirmation that it was intentional ("I didn't make a mistake.")
