My fear is that Trump will invoke the Insurrection Act soon. After that, all bets are off. I think that we may see massacres of protesters by ICE or other corrupt agencies. God forbid it be the National Guard. Maybe that will finally really wake people up.

The Insurrection Act does not give him card Blanche to tear up the constitution. However, declaring Martial Law……huuuum that’s a big problem.

I am skeptical that too many in the red camp (referring to the diagram) will magically wake up. Congress is paralyzed. If states don’t stand up, I fear an eventual tipping point where all hell breaks loose and ICE commits widespread atrocities. We’d better have a plan for various contingencies.

We've been trying to put away a month's worth of necessities in case we can't go out. We're seniors and are limited in what we can do.

Given what we've seen, invoking martial law might not be much different to Trump than invoking the Act.

Better that Trump invokes the Insurrection Act soon rather than closer to the election when his SCOTUS majority could slow walk a decision allowing Trump to use the Insurrection Act & the military to interfere with the election.

Xavier, ICE’s shooting two unarmed civilians is not going to suffice to be termed an insurrection. Any attempt by Trump to move in that direction will be met in court. False flags will not stand either.

I agree Carl. In a sane world where up is up and down is down absolutely. However we are in a world where NATO is prepping for an invasion of Greenland by another NATO member. We are in a world where Russia is the good guys and Ukraine is the bad guy who provoked Russia. We are in a world where literal Nazi’s with a Nazi mindset, Nazi sayings in their government brochures are running roughshod over American citizens’ Constitutional rights. We are in a world where US citizens getting whisked away in black Suburbans is not some conspiracy theory being ranted about on some AM radio station in the middle of the night. It’s just a regular Tuesday especially if you live in Minneapolis.

I hope you are right, Carl.

"...or unilaterally by the president if he deems that rebellion or unlawful obstructions are preventing enforcement of federal law, or that citizens’ constitutional rights are being denied and local authorities cannot protect them."

But the citizens' constitutional rights do seem to be being denied, and the local authorities cannot, it seems, protect them.

Problem is, it is the federal government's own force, ICE, now over-funded and over-weaponized, that is denying constitutional rights, and are given, it seems, the authority to do so.

BTW, I heard one mayor, can't remember who, say that protestors are playing into the hands of Trumpians by virtue of significant protest, and suggest they rein themselves in.

My opinion (worth two Canadian cents...a monetary denomination that is extinct) is that he is both correct and incorrect...another paradox, like Trump causing the denial of citizens' constitutional rights thereby technically justifying the Insurrection Act.

He is right, in that it is exactly what Trump is doing, trying to generate dramatic images and tailor them to imply that the brave ICE agents are doing heroic work, on one hand, while also fueling the fear and anger of citizens who want their democracy back, and costs lower, whether they voted for Trump, Harris, or nobody. And so said fearful, angry folks take to the streets, as the saying goes, albeit with no weapons stronger than hand gestures, placards, creative insults, and, most dangerous of all, cameras.

But he is wrong in that NOT taking to the streets would not stop or eliminate the abuse of law, and constitutional rights, by those absurd looking, overly weaponized and masked goons, aka ICE agents.

On the contrary, I fear that the image of the USA cities not in turmoil would give Trumpians the ability to hoodwink still more people who are now awakening to the viperous monster in the midst. And I fear for my American friends, colleagues and neighbors, that the ICE goons will be directed to do still more damage, instill greater fear, and hurt more innocent people...since the goal is still to cause the turmoil that will justify, in Trumpian minds, ignoring Posse Comitatus and using the Insurrection Act, or worse, martial law, a sort of catch-all ill-defined "right" in extreme emergency, to do do whatever the heck you want against increasing numbers of people.

It would not be being used in a legally defensible manner, but that does not matter now when the means by which the laws being broken are enforced by the same people who are breaking them. That is what i see happening.

Didn’t we all think this is how he would stop elections in 2026?

He announced the Insurrection Act possibility on MLK's actual birthday. Bush the First moved onto Desert Storm 2 on the same date. These things are not coincidental.

I think in a sense, the Supreme Court made the Insurrection Act "necessary" when they determined that "To federalize the National Guard, the President first must determine that he is unable with the regular forces to execute the laws of the United States.” ~ 25A443 Trump v. Illinois

NOT TLDR (which I had to look up, and which is sometimes my feeling on your posts 😆) and very worthwhile, X Dude. Also had to look up the history of Caesar's crossing the Rubicon, but other than that a modest read, pithy and perspicacious. Thank you.

ICE was lawless from Day 1 but is now threatening and carrying out violence against the population in general, as more people protest their violence against neighbors. This puts local and state law enforcement in an untenable position, as an out-of-control federal force engages in criminal activities including battery and property destruction.

Trump threatens to invoke the Insurrection Act with help from the military.
